snailure to launch

#29

forward

Started off this portrait with Kirk sitting for a few minutes, but he's not one to stand still, so I filled the rest in with my memory, which was ok. Creating tactile forms is something I'd like to get better at.

The starting point.
Someone very dear to me is quite sick, and I'm not very good at dealing with it...but I hope it turns around.

meh...gah man

though its not so great, this was fun in terms of learning the translation of shapes in space and trying to fight my very bad urge to make things 2d and repeat shapes (as much as all those mistakes still exist here, and how much this is still lacking). still fun! gotta keep trying!

sleepy

Light seems to work like liquids...it has places of tension, and places of flow. It passes through objects as energy, building on certain areas and releasing on others.

One thing that I have been trying lately are these steps:

Start with a hard brush that consists of 25 percent of the canvas size and block in.
Get half that size with a soft brush and add details until the brush is small.
Go over with a hard brush to tighten areas that need hard edges.
Rinse and repeat.

Soft brushes allow for gradients, and hence, light.
